November 19th-21st

Hello Families,

Given the short week, the homework is abbreviated as well. Please have your child read each day over the long weekend. Now that students are bringing home leveled books as well as self-chosen novels, they have plenty of choice for bedtime reading!

Math: pages from JUMP on Prime and Composite Numbers

Social Science: read pages 28-29 in Places in Time

ELA: Read - some students have no changed their homereading for some time. Please verify that your child is reading daily.

Permission Slip:  Field trip to the Musee des Religions Monday - permission slip went home today.

Report cards went home today as well. Please sign and return the envelope only.

Have a wonderful week!

Under the title "Better Late than Never"

Sorry to blog followers for not posting this sooner. I have been trying to shake a bad cold and let this slip. As you child may have told you, I am now out of school with vocal exhaustion brought on by the cold. I hope to be back quickly.

This week's homework:

Math: revising multiplication and division algorithms, including with decimals

ELA: Poetry response, started in class and due Thursday
Parent's signatures on two book responses from term1

Social Science: corrections to the test, and test to be signed by a parent, due Thursday

Report cards will be coming home next week. While you have had many math assignments to sign lately, it will be important to remember that much of our work on fractions was not cycle three content. The marks on the report card, therefore, will not be a simple averaging of these, but will include these as well as classwork and diagnostic assessment used to determine their understanding.

Have a wonderful week,
Kathy Napier

November 5th-9th

Please return the forms for Parent-Teacher Interviews so that I may fix the schedule
for November 29th.

Math: sheets on adding and subtracting fractions with different denominators
Please sign last week's math quiz, your child should make his or her corrections on a page of loose leaf.
Quiz on decimals this week.

Social Sciences: Test on section 1 of the text (changes to modes of transportation, changes to city/country/suburban life between 1905 and 1980) Tuesday.

ELA: home reading each night(some children have not changed their books in some time)
Reading comprehension exercise from last week is to be signed and returned to school (corrections to be made on loose leaf).
Two text responses will come home to be signed this week. Please read over the rubric and my  comments to see where you child needs to improve his or her responses.  I am using the rubric from last year's MELS exam to mark the students' work so that they will become familiar with the expectations.

If you have not already done so, please return your fundraising envelop to the school.

Have a wonderful week!
